Betsy "Gypsy" Lister Bio

Richard "Roach" Mercer, Biker Republic charter memberGypsy owned and rode a bike back in the late 60's, before it was fashionable for women to ride. She hails from Massachusetts and has been very involved and passionate about biker's rights since she started riding. She holds the distinction of being Motorcycle Poet Laureate for New Hampshire for 2005, and Motorcycle Poet Laureate for New Hampshire and Massachusetts 2006.

Past MMA (Massachusetts Motorcycle Association) Safety Education and Awareness Director, Gypsy was the only lay person to be offered a seat on the Massachusetts Governor's Highway Safety Council before its demise.

She is also a columnist for the Motorcyclists Post, a northeast based motorcycling maggie that boasts a subscription readership of about 22,000 people.

Somewhere around the mid to late 90's Gypsy felt a passionate need to start an online e-zine to keep bikers informed as to what was going on in their world, not only legislatively, but all around news wise as well, and to post accidents, injuries, and/or deaths so that the MRO's would be able to formulate legislation. She begged, borrowed, and/or stole email addresses from people who ride, everywhere she went; from online acquaintances, even wrote emails to anyone with a motorcycling bio online as well, asking them if they'd be interested in receiving news about motorcycling.

Her antics paid off, and in February of 1999, she managed to take what was a whim and turn it into a premier news rag, and formally began the dissemination of *bikerbits* on a daily basis, Monday through Friday.

She scours the Internet for new items pertaining to motorcycling, and donates anywhere from 4-6 hours Monday through Friday compiling the *bikerbits* e-zine. That can be nothing short of passionate devotion as the e-zine is a free service!

Her http://bikerbits.info/ Website and e-zine has received acclaim from the AMA, MRF, and from MRO's all over the country and beyond. It is estimated that about 10,000 riders read *bikerbits* each day and are kept informed as to what's going on in their world.

Owner of Lister Insurance Agency Inc., she continually writes articles on motorcycle insurance and takes the time to educate motorcyclists about their insurance needs. Her business website is: http://listerins.com/.

She also maintains another biker website, which is a reference of sorts for rides, rallies, vendors, biker links, and maggies which she's maintained since 1996 called http://gypsypashn.com/.

Every Saturday morning Gypsy spends another 3-4 hours compiling a Veterans POW/MIA newsletter that is read by about 1500 Veterans from all over the country. In that newsletter she informs Veterans about POW/MIA's that have been identified and are being returned home for burial with full honors.

Recently inducted and invited in 2007 by special invitation to become a lifetime member of NAPEW (National Association of Professional Women) in acknowledgment of my contributions to the community. Only business women who excel nationally are invited to become a member of the association.

Gypsy is honored to be a member of the Biker Republic and to be in such good company with the country's leading motorcyclists rights activists.

Gypsy's motto is: One life to lose Is one life too many If we don't fight for our rights Pretty soon we won't have any!
