My Journey for Your Freedom

Posted by: Renegade

This is a very thoughtful look into our present circumstances in this country. It is written with experience. It is posted wide as a “Must Read”. Here is the intro.

I came from where we are heading, I grew up in a Communist country. Unfortunately I see a lot of parallels between the then and there, and the here and now. I look at this national emergency as a manufactured crisis that provides the government with everything to do whatever they please.

There are many rumors, and they may just be rumors about something brewing in DC. This administration has worked very hard to begin a takeover of the government, and I don’t see them stopping. If they make the decision to go that route, no law, not even the Constitution will stand in their way. They are looking for power over the entire nation.

Where is the military if the government goes against the Constitution? Where is the police?

I wrote the following for the 4th of July, I hope it is an eye opener for all.

Here is the article, a “Must Read”.

God Bless Each

Yeah, it got removed from the site to which I had linked. Maybe because it did not give proper recognition of the original post. It has been fixed. Sorry about that.

BS reply to citizen request to stop renewal of provisions in Patriot Act, from VA Senator Warner

    Dear Mrs. Keaton,

Thank you for contacting me about the USA PATRIOT Act. As you may be aware, President Obama in February 2011 signed a three-month extension of three of the bill’s key provisions. Though some concerns remain about how this law has been implemented and the degree to which it has made us safer, all three provisions have been subject to strict oversight by Congress and by the judiciary branch of government.

I strongly believe that there should not be a trade-off between our security and the freedoms and civil liberties guaranteed by the Constitution. That is why, as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I will work to ensure that these authorities are used in strict accordance to the law, and under close supervision by both Congress and the courts. We must also give our law enforcement and intelligence agencies the tools they need to prevent attacks. As recent press reports have shown, terrorists remain intent on attacking the United States and we have had many close calls, and a number of attacks have been averted.

The first of these provisions would grant authority for better surveillance of targets who take steps to thwart court-approved surveillance under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). It allows law enforcement to keep up with suspects who may be actively trying to evade surveillance (for example, by frequently switching cell phones) without having to seek a new court order every time the suspect changes phones. The Justice Department has reported to Congress that this authority “has proven an important intelligence-gathering tool.”

The second provision would provide expanded authority to compel production of business records, again, with the approval of a FISA court. These provisions must be exercised with great caution, but are necessary to help law enforcement do its job. Finally, the third provision would grant authority to target non-US persons who engage in international terrorism, but who are not necessarily associated with a terrorist group.

I support the President’s decision to temporarily extend these provisions that provide critical tools that have enabled our intelligence and law enforcement communities to effectively track terrorists and thwart attacks. However, as critical as they may be, these authorities require active and appropriate congressional oversight to strike the right balance between civil liberties and counter terrorism requirements. As such, I agree with the President’s decision to sign a temporary, vice permanent, extension because I believe Congress must further scrutinize the PATRIOT Act to be able to assess these authorities’ effectiveness while considering the potential impact to our Constitutional freedoms.

Again, thank you for contacting me. For further information or to sign up for my newsletter please visit my website at http://warner.senate.gov.

    Sincerely,
    MARK R. WARNER
    United States Senator
